Acceptable and Responsible Use Policies

As part of the annual registration process, parents and students are required to review and sign off on the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) and Responsible Use Policy (RUP). These policies govern the use of Student Issued Technology and are included here for your reference.

Acceptable Use Policy

The Acceptable Use Policy governs expectations for appropriate use of the internet on District technology devices.

Responsible Use Policy

The Responsible Use Policy provides guidance on the care and maintenance of technology devices and Digital Citizenship standards.

Highlights

Device Care

  • Bring your Chromebook to every class, every day.

  • Keep your Chromebook charged.

  • Always close your Chromebook before transporting it.

  • Chromebooks do not belong on the floor. Please keep them off the ground.

  • The protective case must remain on your device. Do not remove it.

  • Do not write, paint, draw, scribble, scratch or affix stickers to your Chromebook or the case.

  • You name label must be clearly visible at all times.

  • Do not remove the MAPS asset tag or any other labels.

  • Clean your screen with a soft cloth as needed.

  • Do not lean on or place heavy objects on your Chromebook.

Internet Use

  • Do not use the internet to access material that is profane or obscene or that advocates drug use, violence or discrimination.

  • You are responsible for all content on your device.

  • Internet activities and email are monitored at all times on all district owned devices.

  • Technology is to be used for educational purposes only. Do not play games or watch videos when you should be learning.

  • Parents are able to view and access student content through the Securly Home Parent Portal.

  • Internet access will be restricted for students who violate the Acceptable Use Policy.

Digital Citizenship

  • All online behavior is expected to comply with the Merrill Area Public Schools policies regarding harassment and bullying.

  • Be aware of what you post online. Social media venues are very public. Do not post anything you wouldn't want friends, enemies, parents, teachers or a future employer to see.

  • Be safe online. Never give out personal information, including, but not limited to, last names, phone numbers, addresses, exact birth dates and pictures.

  • Do not share your password or Chromebook with other students.

  • Do your own work.

    Do not use other people's intellectual property without their permission. It is a violation of copyright law to copy and paste other's thoughts.
