Beginner Beekeeping

Description: Embark on a fascinating three-week journey into the rewarding hobby of keeping honeybees. Week one covers the structural biology of a bee, the roles of workers, drones, and queens, life cycle stages, and basic hive equipment. Week two covers proper beehive placement, installing a nucleus colony, hive inspection routines, and feeding schedules. Week three wraps up with identifying pests and diseases, protecting against predators, and steps to successfully overwinter a hive in the harsh Wisconsin climate.
Materials: Just bring a notebook. Specialized diagnostic diagrams and region-specific overwintering charts are provided.
Instructor Bio: Mike and Laurie Lawrence are the owners of Hamburg Honey LLC and have been active regional beekeepers for over 16 years. Deeply knowledgeable about local agricultural patterns, they enjoy sharing practical survival strategies to help novice beekeepers establish healthy, sustainable apiaries in North-Central Wisconsin.
