OVERVIEW
The MAPS Board of Education requested School Perceptions, an independent research firm specializing in surveys for public and private organizations, conduct a survey in fall of 2017 to identify the community’s school funding priorities.
Overall, the survey had an excellent response rate of 20% based on comparative participation rates state-wide, with:
COST SAVING OPTIONS
The survey tested support for a variety of options to reduce operating costs. Only one option had slightly more than 50% support by all resident respondents:
The remaining options tested will less than 50% support, including:

Reduce athletics and/or activities

Explore closing or consolidating elementary schools

Continue to increase middle/high school class sizes

Continue to increase elementary class sizes

Decrease middle/high school course offering
FUNDING SUPPORT
The survey tested 3 referendum dollar amounts to help fund school operations.
Conclusion: The majority of all survey respondent subgroups, including 62% of all residents, support the District holding a $2.5 million referendum to maintain all current programs/services and address other budget items (based on survey feedback).
